Very Rev. Robert E. Casey, VF
Pastor
Fr. Casey was born in Boston, MA and raised in Milton and Dorchester, MA. The Son of Catherine (Kaveney) and John Casey, he is one of 7 children (Sr. Maureen, SND; John; Jeannine; Kate; Paula and Patricia). He attended St. Mark's and St. Gregory's Elementary Schools, Dorchester, Christopher Columbus Catholic High School in the North End, and received a B.A. in Biology from St. Anselm College, Manchester, NH in 1981. He entered St. Anselm Abbey after graduation and was welcomed as Benedictine Monk until 1984 when he transferred to St. John's Seminary in Boston, and was ordained a priest in June of 1987 for the Archdiocese of Boston. Before being appointed Pastor of St. Brigid Parish in early 2000 and Gate of Heaven Parish in 2002, Fr. Casey served as Team Minster at St. Joseph Parish and Sacred Heart Parish and later Holy Family Parish in Amesbury, as parochial vicar at St. Mary's Parish, Charlestown, and St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Medford, MA. Fr. Casey was a Catholic Chaplain for the Medford Fire Department from 1987 to 1992 and Assistant Chaplian for the Boston Fire Department from 2004 - 2017 and was Catholic Chaplain for the Medford Police Department from 1988 to 2022. Fr. Casey is the Vicar Forane for the Central Region.
Rev. Peter Schirripa
Parochial Vicar
Father Peter Schirripa grew up in Lexington, Mass with his parents and five brothers and sisters. He attended Lexington High School and Saint Anselm College. Before hearing the call to become a priest, Father Peter taught middle school English and Social Studies at Jonas Clarke Middle School in Lexington, Mass. He also coached soccer, basketball, and baseball. He prepared for the priesthood at Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton, Mass. Father Peter was ordained a priest on May 20, 2023 by Cardinal Sean O’Malley. In his freetime, Father Peter enjoys playing and watching sports, skiing, and hiking. Feel free to introduce yourself to Father Peter after Mass.
Monsignor Liam Bergin
Assisting Priest
Monsignor Liam Bergin has been priest-in-residence at our parishes since May 2012. A priest of the Diocese of Ossory, he is a native of Co. Laois (Ireland). He studied and taught in Italy for 24 years and served as rector of the Pontifical Irish College in Rome for 10 years until he came to Boston in 2011. During this time he was also a professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he had earned a doctorate in sacred theology. He also holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and chemistry and a higher diploma in education. In September 2014 he was named Professor of the Practice of Sacramental Theology at the Theology Department at Boston College having already been a visiting professor at the University for three years. Since arriving in Boston he has become an avid Red Sox fan!
Parish Secretary
Karin took over as Parish Secretary after Trish Strumm's retirement in 2017. Karin and her family have lived in South Boston for over 10 years and have two school-aged children. Karin manages the parish office -- everything from baptisms to funerals, booking masses, etc. If you need assistance with anything regarding our parish please reach out.
